I'm using this section to explore and interpret sites that interest me at the moment, especially:
- Building sites.
- Physically complex spaces, such as spaces involving tunnels, multiple levels, bridges, water ways and irrigation networks.
- Communication and transport networks.
- Environmental monitoring installations.
I will also be exploring art practices that relate to these sites. Along with writing, to explore these sites I'll be taking research photographs and collecting existing documentation.
Particular influences include:
- The essay,..... It's approach, in focussing on a particular sites as they exist today, is something I'd like to experiment with.
- Douglas Huebler's artistic approach. The way as an artist he was interested in exploring situations and working under the mode of the project rather than the object. I will be following him in how I'll be exploring situations which are distributed across space and bringing these distributed parts into contact with each other. I find the way his works have a sense of the immaterial being interpenetrated by the material fascinating. I wil be looking at sites that have this sense of interpenetration.
- I'm also very influenced by Oscar Tuazon's art works. I am interested in the works' particular engagements with materials and process and temporary structures.
