Joe Crowdy
In reply to A Submersible's invitation to contribute some site-related research material, Joe Crowdy's contribution links to his ongoing use of the tourist town of Águilas on the South-Eastern coast of Spain as a site of research. This forms part of an ongoing line of enquiry into the
production and circulation of |
images through tourism as a means of disseminating architectural ideas. The tiled background images of his contribution are borrowed from a recent sculpture Switchboard
(2013), where the same images were mounted onto galvanised steel and hung as tiles from two hinged steel frames. The act of |
zooming in on a material
or structural typology, a methodology familiar to his practice, is combined with a more wide-angled approach that reveals some urban or spatial context. |
